CARE TIPS FOR YOUR SWISS ARMY KNIFE
The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion.
SHARPENING
To re-sharpen your knife, use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, always cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures and the resulting damages that may occur.
CLEANING
If the blades of knife begin to stick together, open and close the blades in warm water several times - this will allow the tools to move easily again. Once dry, apply a drop of Swiss Army Knife Oil between each tool and its spring. Do not put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher.
HISTORY & HERITAGE
In 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland. There, he and his cutlers’ union produced the finest steel cutlery, finished with the now-famous proprietary edge preferred globally by professionals and home cooks. Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife and Officer’s Knife. After the death of his mother, and with the advent of stainless steel, Karl changed the name of the company to Victorinox. It is from those humble beginnings that a worldwide icon was born. Today, Victorinox is still owned and operated by the Elsener family, and both the company and family still resides in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland.

Manufacturer's Warranty
Lifetime warranty against defectsAbout Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

So now, about some of the tools specifically. Some have mentioned having two of the same tool like the magnifier glass and parcel hook. With the magnifier glass, the clear one is 5X and the gray is 8X. They can be combined to magnify 13X(don't quote me on the exact magnification numbers, I think that's right, but you get the idea of why there is two of them). The parcel hook, one has a smooth back and one has a diamond coated back(I'm guessing to be used as a nail file?).
Now to the electronics. This is one of my favorite parts. The simplicity of how this many features can be operated with one button is amazing! just press the Vicorinox logo away you go. The clock keeps 12 and 24 hour time. The altimeter goes in 2 foot increments and updates about every 2 seconds. It is accurate, but must be calibrated like any altimeter that works off of barometric pressure(since the barometric pressure changes with the weather). If you don't calibrate it as the weather changes, it can go 100 or more feet off your true altitude. I recommend googling your home altitude and writing this down for quick and easy calibrations in the future. The barometer only shows trends and the current pressure relative to the pressures recorded 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours ago. It does not actually tell you what the pressure is. So this is good for forecasting short term weather if you are in one place. The alarm and timer are both loud. Loud enough to wake me up in the morning, and I'm not a morning person. The stopwatch works and goes in increments on 1 second. The thermometer is very accurate, but changes quickly if you hold the knife in your hand for more than 10 seconds or keep the knife in your pocket. So it must sit a while to get an accurate reading. The flashlight is fairly bright for its small single led size. I have used it while camping to walk on a dark path in the woods at night and it worked just fine.
Overall. This is a great knife! It has everything one could ever need. I have used every tool for something. From the screwdriver to take off a refrigerator door, to the weigh spatula(I am a student researcher in a chemistry lab). This is very high quality. The ruby color(which I didn't think id like that much) is very elegant and looks amazing. If you want a knife that has it all and can do it all, this is a great choice. Just don't think this is a show piece only.
Unlike the other Swiss Army Knives which have a Matte or Glossy finish, this has a textured, clear red scale. This features two electronic components, the LED LIGHT and the Digital Clock, timer, altimeter, barometer and alarm.
For daily use, this have almost every practical tool imaginable. A pen, knife, bottle opener, screwdriver, Torx set, ruler, tweezers, magnifying glass, scissors, wire cutters, pliers, wire splitter and splicer, pen, and filer.
Sure you can get multiple different tools but what else has the flair of being all on the same gadget? This is the James Bond version of the Swiss Army knife and I realize he was Scottish.
There aren't many things that you cannot do with this. Well, you can start a fire with the magnifier. But, it won't change a tire for you. These types of gadgets will have some limitations. Whether you're hiking, hunting, camping or just around the house, this will serve so many daily purposes that you will wonder how you lived without it.
This knife system as a whole is beefy and thick. It's as wide as an iPhone but thicker. It's almost 1 pound in weight. Sure, you can put it into your pocket but at this kind of price, you might as well splurge for a holster.
This can easily fit into a hunting backpack, fanny pack, cargo pants pocket, Murse/Manpurse or woman's purse.
The construction is solid and it is backed by a strong warranty. Replacement parts can get expensive if you lose stiff continuously over time.
Sure, the cost is about the same as a high end handbag, decent watch, a good set of large Bluetooth speakers, or a nice set of binoculars, but the function really surpasses just the novelty of a knife system like this.
There aren't any other gadgets that can do so much for you at this price point...especially, at the expense of size and practicality.
This is the ultimate knife system.
It includes bits for the bit wrenches not available with any other Victorinox knife and not even listed as spares on the Victorinox web site that I could find. The only aftermarket bits I have found the same size are Wiha System 4 bits. They fit the bit holders but do not include the spring loaded ball retainer that the Victorinox bits have.
The two magnifiers are different powers, the grey surround one is 8x and the clear surround version is 5x per the manual. They can be folded out and used together too to provide at least 13x power, maybe a bit more, with their distance of separation.
The true duplicate items are the two small screwdrivers on the bottom side of the knife. The two hooks are different in that one has a very narrow fingernail file on the shank. It appears to be a diamond file so should never dull.
IMO one problem is Victorinox failure to provide a sheath or case for the knife. If actually carried it definitely needs one. I have checked and the knife will fit a Canon Digital Elph camera leather case quite well, possibly others too.
Definitely a fun knife to show off to friends and acquaintences and certainly more practical than the Wenger Giant knife with it's 80 or so implements. Per their web site the Wenger is 2 pounds weight and about 8" wide. Strictly a display item while the Victorinox is still a semi practical knife if you have large hands and do not find the bulk and weight bothersome.
